Class Descriptions:Our classes are taught in levels to allow students to choose what is appropriate for them. Below are guidelines to help you choose the class that is best for you. Please honor your level so that you can get the most out of your yoga practice every day! Yin Yoga – this is a gentle, slow paced class but it is far from easy! Yin yoga focuses on holding supported postures for long periods of time (3 to 5 minutes and sometimes longer), in coordination with deep, controlled breathing to help stretch the deep connective tissues of the body. Settle in, breathe deep and get loose! Kundalini Yoga - uses movement, sound current, breath and meditation to relax and heal your mind and body, allowing the spirit to flow freely. Kundalini Yoga brings a greater feeling of well-being and happiness - our natural birthright as humans. This powerful and effective form of Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini Yoga, is a great way to recharge and heal your body quickly. How? By stimulating the nervous and immune systems, improving strength and flexibility and centering the mind to open the spirit. From your very first class, you'll reap the rewards including-- relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression and insomnia, as well as weight control. Kundalini Yoga promises you peace of mind. And everyone can do it!
Rest & Restore - This class focuses on gentle postures, conscious breathing and meditation to relax the mind and the body and aid the innate healing mechanisms of the body. Opening Flow 1 – To build a strong foundation we start with safe alignment of the basic standing and seated asanas as well as an intro to pranayama to guide us toward more flowing sequences and conscious use of the breath later on. This is a strong, slow-paced class designed for new students with little or no yoga background. It is designed to help build the strength and stamina needed for more advanced practices. Rising Flow 2 - this class will build on the basics with more asanas including hand balancing and preparation for inversions as well as new, creative sequencing and more advanced pranayama practices. This is a great class for students with some yoga time under their belts or for more seasoned students who simply want a slower paced class. Freedom Flow 3 - this is the level of freedom! The creativity of vinyasa has full play here with wild sequences, advanced asana including inversions, hand balances, deep twists and long stretches, conscious use of the breath in all aspects of class and plenty of time for you own beautiful yoga self expression. This class is for students with a regular asana practice. Heart of Hatha – these classes utilize the language of spirals and heart opening from the Anusara tradition as well as alignment principles similar to the Iyengar tradition. A slightly slower, steadier pace than vinyasa with lots of wonderful, detailed instruction and gentle assists to get you started with confidence. Kripalu - Developed by Amrit Desi and often referred to as 'meditation in motion' this class focuses on the breath, alignment, and each student’s personal, internal experience of each posture. Structural Integration Vinyasa – As with other vinyasa or flow classes, Structural Integration Vinyasa focuses on synchronizing breath with movement. This class offers detailed instruction of proper alignment as well as cues to develop spatial awareness. Structural Integration, a term coined by Ida Rolf the founder of the method of body work known as Rolfing, is a holistic healing modality that improves the tonic function of muscles. When muscle tonus is functioning properly, there is a sense of ease in the muscles with a high degree of oxygenation which increases energy throughout the body. We use these concepts to increase muscular tonic function by enhancing gravitational and spatial awareness through mental imagery and sensation within the context of a vinyasa flow class. This class offers a wide range of cardio-vascular benefits through vinyasa flow while also providing an opportunity to experience greater awareness through longer-held “yin”postures. All levels of yoga practitioners can benefit but some yoga experience is recommended. Qigong and Healing from Within -This class is primarily Qigong but also includes Yogic and Shamanic practices to cultivate energy for physical, emotional and spiritual health and self-realization. The class follows the seasons, connects with nature and includes simple yet powerful qigong forms, Tao Yin, gentle yoga, movement, breathwork, acupressure, sound healing, guided meditation and journeying. **Qigong class has a different cost scale than the yoga classes.
