Press Release: 30-Year-Old Santa Fe Wellness Nonprofit Founded by Michael Maitreya Hopp Urgently Seeks New Home

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Santa Fe Community Yoga Center (SFCYC) – a nonprofit yoga center founded by community leader Michael Maitreya Hopp – must urgently move from its home of 30 years at 826 Camino de Monte Rey Suite B1.

These are difficult circumstances. The current location is home to standout murals by local artist Nico Stellar, a time-tested labyrinth, a free book library, and 30 years of memories. Yet, the current building requires renovation, and SFCYC leadership must urgently find a new space.

This move compounds the financial hardship experienced by SFCYC, which is still recovering from the financial impact of COVID-19. SFCYC is working to raise $50,000 by the end of September to keep the nonprofit afloat.

SFCYC has four full-time staff members and a thriving board that serve thousands of yogis each year. The nonprofit yoga center works hard to make yoga programming safe, welcoming, and accessible for students of every race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy status, sexual orientation, class, size, age, disability, and history of conviction or incarceration.

Affordable, inclusive classes are offered every day of the week at the current location. Additionally, SFCYC brings the benefits of yoga to marginalized communities by offering Yoga in Schools and Yoga in Prisons programming. The former program improves the physical and mental health of Santa Fe’s youth, while the latter works to reduce recidivism rates for incarcerated women in New Mexico.

SFCYC seeks community support in four ways:

“We know that if we make it through this transition we will be stronger than ever before,” Former Co-Executive Director and current fundraiser Moriah Arnold said in a statement. “With a new space, a dedicated team, and a beautiful community behind us, anything is possible. We hope we can overcome this obstacle to offer another 30 years of affordable wellness resources for the community.”

SFCYC appreciates and encourages all press coverage of this transition and all community support. Please direct all press and community inquiries to Administrative Director Ashleigh Collier at admin@santafecommunityyoga.org or Moriah Arnold at 443-538-6255.
